Concerned parents have long warned that public K-12 schools are pushing radical gender ideology and fueling a social contagion of students declaring themselves to be ‘trans.’ This June, a Washington State high school provided the latest example: a “Pride Month” display which included vials of the male hormone testosterone, commonly used by biological females seeking to ‘transition’ to a male gender identity.
Journalist and political commentator Brandi Kruse broke the story with a viral post on X.
“OH. MY. LORD.” Kruse wrote. “We were just sent images of the Pride display at Washington’s Graham-Kapowsin High School. It contains vials of testosterone injections.”
Images of the pride display show a large glass cannister filled with numerous vials of medication labeled “Testosterone Cypionate Injection.” The canister is placed on a transgender pride flag featuring the recognizable pastel pink, blue, and white color scheme. An additional vial of testosterone, appearing to contain some liquid, is placed outside the canister, with the label clearly visible. A rainbow-colored fan and a collection of books promoting gender ideology are also included in the display.
Upon seeing Kruse’s post, area Sheriff Keith Swank responded with his own post stating, “Pierce County Sheriff’s Office will be investigating this.”
“Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank was not playing around,” Kruse subsequently reported. “His detectives seized the testosterone vials this morning. We’ve obtained these images. A key question will be whether they belong to a teacher or student.”
Forced into action by the Sheriff’s visit, Bethel School District, which oversees the high school, finally responded. “We were made aware of a display at Graham-Kapowsin High School that included empty vials of testosterone as one of its visuals. The display also contained some vials that still contained a small amount of unknown liquid,” Douglas Boyles, director of communications at Bethel School District, said in a statement.
“Administrators have removed the vials and identified the individual responsible for adding them without leadership approval,” Boyles added. “We are also actively reviewing our display oversight protocols to ensure all school materials strictly align with our educational standards and community expectations.”
A public information officer at the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed the facts of the case: “On June 8, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Graham-Kapowsin High School following reports of a controlled substance being displayed on campus. Multiple inquiries were received regarding vials of testosterone that had been placed as part of a Pride display in a school hallway. Several of the vials appeared to contain remaining liquid.”
“Upon arrival, deputies were informed by school administrators that they had recently become aware of the vials. School staff stated they were unaware the testosterone vials had been added to the display and had not authorized their placement.”
“Testosterone is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance under federal law due to its potential for abuse and dependence,” the officer added. “Consistent with standard procedure, the vials were seized as evidence and removed from the school. This investigation remains ongoing.”
The male hormone testosterone can have catastrophic and irreversible effects on women who take it to ‘transition’ to ‘trans men.’ Among these are greatly increased cardiovascular risk, male-pattern baldness, vaginal atrophy, infertility, decreased bone density and increased risk of fractures, and the painful swelling of vocal cords, among others.
The other materials in the exhibit, while not forbidden by law, are also problematic. It prominently features a transgender flag and numerous books promoting radical gender ideology. Among those is “Pink, Blue, and You: Questions for Kids About Gender Stereotypes” by Elise Gravel and Mykaell Blais. Aimed at a very young audience—grade school and younger—the book’s subtitle is misleading. Instead of challenging gender stereotypes, the authors use gender stereotypes as a starting point for promoting trans ideology. They proclaim that “How we feel inside is called our gender identity” and showcase children declaring “I feel like I’m both a boy and a girl at the same time” and using opposite sex or plural pronouns such as “they.”
While the seizure of the unauthorized testosterone in the school display resolves the immediate legal issue of a controlled medication unsecured in a high school hallway, many questions remain. How many teachers and administrators—and impressionable students—passed by the display before its contents were flagged as illegal? Why did it take a viral post from an independent journalist to get the illicit medication removed? And why are schools encouraging underage students to mutilate and medicalize their healthy bodies in service of a radical ideology instead of accepting themselves as they were born? Graham-Kapowsin High School seems unlikely to address these questions anytime soon.
