According to a new survey that measured anti-Semitism on campuses in the 2013-2014 school year, 54% of American college students have been victims of anti-Semitism. The figures came from the 2014 National Demographic Survey of American Jewish College Students, published by Trinity College on Tuesday.
The survey found different venues for the anti-Semitic incidents; 29% of the incidents occurred from individual students, 10% in student clubs, 6% in class, 4% in the student union, and 3% from the college’s administration. There was a significant difference in whether the Jewish students attended private or public universities; in the South, 70% of students in public universities experienced anti-Semitism, with 48% in private schools; in the Midwest, 65% of public and 45% of private university students; although in the Northeast, 56% of private college students vs. 50% of public school students experienced anti-Semitism.
59% of students who identified as "Conservative Jews" said they had been victimized, while 62% of "Reform Jews" claimed they had, and 52% who identified as "Orthodox Jews” said they had been targets.
73% of students working with the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) said they had experienced anti-Semitism; only 49% of the leftist group J Street said they had.
