“Black Lives Matter at School is a national organizing for racial justice in education,” [the official website explains](https://blacklivesmatteratschool.com/teaching-materials/?fbclid=IwAR3e5IaOBlBJ_tsA9CgXOAnUQs98K-VC1JxyHBGbWp-q8emaQ0LoJmDy26s), and modeled on a 2017-18 “national uprising to affirm the lives of Black students, teachers, and families” in Seattle, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, New York City, Baltimore Washington DC “and beyond.”
The national uprising targeted an education system that “pushes Black students out of school at disproportionate rates,” and “whitewashes the curriculum” to exclude the contributions of Black people. In response, during the first week of February, the national uprising wants restorative justice, more Black teachers, ethnic studies courses, diversity and globalism, “Trans-Affirming, Queer Affirming and Collective Value,” and so forth.
The [reading and viewing website](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LGslwJwhXvpVnDgw0uC-n794l6EGzpuH) list includes White Supremacy: An American Currency, Interrupting Oppressive Behavior and such. Black Lives Matter at School links with the Edjustice program of the National Education Association. [Edjustice promotes](https://neaedjustice.org/) DACA renewal, Dreamers, “safe zones” for immigrant students, ethnic studies programs, supporting LGBTQ youth, and Black Lives Matter at School.
[Endorsers of Black Lives Matter at School](https://blacklivesmatteratschool.com/endorsments-2/) include Jonathan Kozol. As [Sol Stern explained in _City Journal_](https://www.city-journal.org/html/america’s-most-influential—and-wrongest—school-reformer-12078.html), Kozol is America’s most influential “and wrongest” school reformer who got his ideas from “revolutionary Cuba.” Kozol’s _Children of the Revolution_, “is a nauseating apologia for the Castro regime’s indoctrination of children and adults,” and the author “became a crude propagandist for a coercive Marxist state.”
Black Lives Matter at School endorser Bill Ayers is described as an education professor but there is more to the man. As [David Horowitz explained in 2013](https://archives.frontpagemag.com/fpm/daily-beasts-disgraceful-interview-bill-ayers-david-horowitz/), Ayers is “a shallow, murderous liar” of the Weather Underground. Ayers and his friends “were intending to start a race war in America, which is why they idolized Charles Manson.” And Ayers and his friends “are still being investigated for the cold case murder of a policeman in Los Angeles who was killed by a Weatherman bomb.”
So no surprise that Ayers endorses the latest uprising of Black Lives Matter, as Matthew Vadum explains, a “[racist revolutionary movement](https://archives.frontpagemag.com/fpm/blacklivesmatter-goes-white-house-matthew-vadum/),” fomenting “increasingly violent activism” such as the murder of police officers. After Black Lives Matter called for a boycott of “white capitalism” in 2017, former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said the anti-capitalist movement has “[hijacked Black Lives Matter and used them as a mask](https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/black-lives-matter-has-been-hijacked-by-george-soros-sheriff-clarke). They figured that coming out of the 60s when they failed with this movement, they felt that they were too white and they needed to add color.” As Clarke added, “Socialism and anti-capitalism have done nothing anywhere in the world, including the United States, to help black people.”
As [John Perazzo explains](https://archives.frontpagemag.com/fpm/black-lives-matter-movement-built-lies-john-perazzo/), Black Lives Matter bears no relation to the reality that most black homicide victims are killed by other blacks, not white cops. So the group’s correct name should be “Facts Don’t Matter.” Even so, Black Lives Matter At School is now targeting students with racist indoctrination disguised as “ethnic studies” and such. Several back stories remain at work here.
The Communist Party USA did not consider blacks to be Americans and sought to establish a black homeland in southern states. A prominent Communist Party propagandist was Frank Marshall Davis, the beloved “Frank” in _Dreams from My Father_. So no surprise that after he became president of the United States, the author endorsed Black Lives Matter.
At a memorial service for five slain Dallas police officers, the president said no institution was immune from “bigotry” and “[that includes our police departments](https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jul/12/obama-defends-black-lives-matter-protests-police-m/).” So Americans “cannot simply turn away and dismiss those in peaceful protest as troublemakers or paranoid.”
When he was on the rise through the back channels of the left, the former Barry Soetoro became [very chummy with Weatherman Bill Ayers](https://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/presidential-campaign/32072-obama-and-bill-ayers-together-from-the-beginning) his own self. So the endorsement of Black Lives Matter is no surprise and neither is that group’s alliance with the National Education Association. The nation’s biggest teacher union is one of the left’s most powerful divisions, and a key player in the dumbing down of America chronicled in the 1983 [_A Nation at Risk_](https://www2.ed.gov/pubs/NatAtRisk/risk.html).
The NEA thrives under government monopoly education, a collective farm of mediocrity in which dollars must trickle down through layers of bureaucratic sediment before they reach kids in the classroom. The NEA likes it that way and opposes all efforts to allow parents and students to choose their schools. Bill Ayers’ buddy POTUS 44 took that to a new level.
While sending his own children to the prestigious Sidwell Friends School, the president opposed the [DC Opportunity Scholarship Program](https://servingourchildrendc.org/), which provided vouchers of up to $7,500 for low-income African American students to attend the independent schools of their choice. The president’s point man was Education Secretary Arne Duncan, a former Chicago schools boss. As the [_Washington Post_ noted](https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/09/AR2009070902542.html), Duncan _rescinded_ 216 scholarships and “nine out of 10 students who were shut out of the scholarship program this year are assigned to attend failing public schools.”
Like Arkansas governor Orval Faubus, Duncan and his boss stood in the schoolhouse door, only facing inward. In similar style, the [_Washington Times_ reported last year](https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/jan/9/dc-opportunity-scholarship-programs-future-is-unce/), the future of the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program “is uncertain under a Democrat-led House.” D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has called for an end to the program.
Meanwhile, in government monopoly education, students remain a captive audience for indoctrination campaigns like Black Lives Matter at School. That calls for parental resistance at the local level, and a better overall plan.
Every parent and child should have the right to choose their schools, as a matter of basic civil rights. In his second term, President Trump should make school choice a top priority. That would be a huge win for parents, students and the nation, and deal a crushing defeat to the left.
