Public University Campus Issues Ban to Conservative Organization in Response to Posters Linking Students for Justice in Palestine with Hamas
In a carefully worded legal missive sent via certified mail, the University of Texas-San Antonio, a publicly-funded academic institution, informed the conservative organization, the David Horowitz Freedom Center, yesterday that the organization and its members are banned from setting foot on campus for posting “unauthorized” flyers exposing the terrorist links of the campus organization Students for Justice in Palestine.
The letter signed by UTSA Interim Chief Legal Officer John Danner stated:
“since your organization is not affiliated with this university and you had no reasonable business to conduct when you posted the unauthorized flyers, the David Horowitz Freedom Center and its members are being issued a Criminal Trespass warning for ail UTSA properties. This means you are barred and forbidden from entering or remaining on any UTSA properties. If any member of your organization returns, they are subject to arrest, pursuant to Section 30.05 of the Texas Penal Code.”
The university response was triggered by posters placed on the UTSA campus by the Freedom Center which exposed the financial and institutional ties between the campus organization Students for Justice in Palestine and the anti-Israel terror group Hamas. The posters also revealed that campus activists affiliated with SJP have praised Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler on social media and issued calls for another Holocaust of the Jews.
“We have been banned from the University of Texas at San Antonio for exercising our free speech rights to warn the UTSA community that a campus organization, SJP, is an agent of a designated terrorist organization from which it receives funding and whose terrorist propaganda agendas it serves,” said David Horowitz, founder of the Freedom Center. “The University of Texas—a publicly funded entity—has granted official recognition to this terrorist front, and provides it with offices and additional funding. Yet UTSA sees fit to ban our organization and our posters which reveal the truth about SJP’s terrorist ties and motivations.”
The letter further stated that “the David Horowitz Freedom Center is now officially instructed to cease and desist any illegal or unauthorized activities on the UTSA campuses.”
The Freedom Center yesterday released a pamphlet titled “SJP: Neo-Nazis on Campus” which reveals that campus anti-Israel activists affiliated with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the Muslim Students Association (MSA) and other likeminded groups are using social media to praise Adolf Hitler, spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and call for the extermination of the Jews.
One of the students profiled in the pamphlet is UTSA graduate student Nour Rafati who is an activist with both SJP and MSA on campus. Statements shared by Rafati on social media include “have a safe trip habibtii! slap a jew for me ;)” and “Hitler memes are the funniest.” She also shared “We have a really mean cat in our backyard that beats up the others and my mom calls him “el ya7oodi [the jew]” lol.”
The posters and pamphlet are part of a larger Freedom Center campaign titled Stop University Support for Terrorists. Images of the posters that appeared at UTSA may be viewed at https://stopuniversitysupportforterrorists.org. Posters have also been placed on other campuses including the University of Texas-Arlington, Harvard University, Brandeis University, the University of California-Berkeley, University of California-Los Angeles, and San Francisco State University, among others.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center, founded in 1988, is a not-for-profit organization located in Sherman Oaks, California. The Center’s mission is to defend free societies like America and Israel, which are under attack by totalitarians both religious and secular, domestic and foreign.
