Posters name campus BDS activists, depict SJP as a front for the terror group Hamas and the Hamas intermediary American Muslims for Palestine
The David Horowitz Freedom Center claimed credit for posters that appeared today on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) identifying the organization Students for Justice in Palestine as a campus front for Hamas terrorists and the Hamas intermediary American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). AMP was revealed in recent congressional testimony to be funneling terrorist dollars to Students for Justice in Palestine to support the Hamas-sponsored, anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign in America.
“Virtually every major university campus in America is host to student organizations dedicated to spreading the propaganda lies of the Hamas terrorists which are designed to weaken and delegitimize the Israeli state. These student organizations promote Hamas campaigns like Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) whose goal is Israel’s destruction,” explained David Horowitz, founder of the Freedom Center. “Our goal in placing these posters on prominent campuses across America is to expose the true motivations and allegiances of these groups who have chosen to join forces with terrorists, to challenge their lies and to expose the financial and organizational supports which allow them to pursue their genocidal agenda.”
“Students for Justice in Palestine functions as the most prominent pro-terrorist, anti-Jewish organization in America, and provides a key recruiting tool for terrorists in the Middle East who are seeking to obliterate the only democracy in the Middle East and its Jews,” commented Horowitz. “This presence of a genocidal, terrorist support movement on elite campuses across America is probably the most under-reported story of our times. Our posters shine a spotlight on the individuals behind these sinister campus activities, which put not only our ally Israel in danger, but our homeland as well.”
Individual campus leaders—both student and faculty—of these sinister agendas are identified on the posters. Their names have been drawn from the Canary Mission database. The Canary Mission is an organization created to “document the people and groups that are promoting hatred of the USA, Israel and Jews on college campuses in North America.” The organization’s website is www.canarymission.org.
One poster features UCLA’s Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Jerry Kang, who is SJP’s chief advocate in the UCLA Administration. Kang played a leading role in an SJP harassment campaign that forced second year law student Milan Chatterjee to leave the school in fear for his physical safety. Chatterjee ran afoul of SJP when he refused to allow the UCLA Graduate Student Association, of which he was president, to become a platform for SJP’s anti-Israel agendas, specifically the Boycott, Divest & Sanctions campaign. Kang’s response was not to support Chatterjee’s attempt to keep the Graduate Student Association neutral in this matter, but to launch a three month investigation of Chatterjee for alleged bias.
A second poster depicts a gun-toting Hamas terrorist holding the strings of a puppet labeled “American Muslims for Palestine” which in turn controls a marionette labeled “Students for Justice in Palestine.” Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is described as “The chief sponsor of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish activities on campus.” Hamas is identified as “A terror organization pledged to wipe out Israel” (a goal explicitly stated in the Hamas charter) while AMP is the “Hamas-created chief organizer and funder of SJP.” The poster also depicts shadowed bodies lying in pools of blood, illustrating the bloody deeds of Hamas’s campaign of terror against the Jews. The poster contains the hashtag #JewHatred and the Freedom Center’s website, www.HorowitzFreedomCenter.org.
A third poster created by the Freedom Center asks sardonically, “Do you want to show your support for Hamas terrorists whose stated goal is the elimination of the Jewish people and the Jewish state?” and answers the question with “Join us! Students for Justice in Palestine.” The poster then lists the names of student and faculty leaders on campus who promote the genocidal Boycott Divest and Sanctions movement against Israel. The poster includes the hashtag #JewHatred and the Freedom Center’s website.
A fourth poster depicts three figures labeled “Europe,” “Israel,” and “America” in the target of a bull’s-eye with the caption “Think the terrorists won’t come here? Think again.” Of course the terrorists are already here.
The posters are part of a larger Freedom Center campaign titled Stop the Jew Hatred on Campus which seeks to confront the agents of campus anti-Semitism and expose the financial and organizational relationship between the terror group Hamas and Hamas support groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine. The campaign also recently released a report on the “Top Ten Schools Supporting Terrorists” which may be found on the campaign website, www.StoptheJewHatredonCampus.org. UCLA is among the campuses listed in the Top Ten report.
SJP is the chief promoter of the Hamas-inspired and funded Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, a genocidal effort to strangle Israel’s democracy and make it vulnerable to its enemies. Among SJP’s many activities in the service of Hamas is its sponsorship of “Israeli Apartheid” weeks featuring Hamas and BDS supporters as campus speakers and advancing the false claims that Israel is illegally occupying Arab Palestine and is a racist state like South Africa and deserves to be destroyed. In fact, there never was a state called Palestine, and the State of Israel was created by the United Nations, not out of land that belonged to the Arabs, but out of land that belonged to the Turks for 400 years until they lost it in World War I. Far from being an apartheid state, Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, and the only country in the region that is tolerant towards its minority communities. The million-plus Arabs who are Israeli citizens have more rights than the Arabs of any other Middle Eastern state, including the territories of the West Bank and Gaza.
As described in the Freedom Center’s recent pamphlet, Students for Justice in Palestine: A Campus Front for Hamas Terrorists, SJP’s pro-terror campaign is guided and funded through a Hamas front called American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), whose principals are former officers of the Holy Land Foundation and other Islamic “charities” which were previously convicted of funneling money to Hamas. AMP was created by Hatem Bazian, a pro-Hamas professor at UC Berkeley who is also the co-founder of SJP.
In recent testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Jonathan Schanzer, a terrorism finance analyst for the United States Department of the Treasury from 2004-2007, described AMP as “arguably the most important sponsor and organizer for Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), which is the most visible arm of the BDS campaign on campuses in the United States” and explained that “AMP spent $100,000 on campus activities in 2014 alone.”
Horowitz said that UCLA is one of several universities to be targeted by the Stop the Jew Hatred on Campus campaign. “Jew haters on other campuses are going to wake up some morning soon and see their names on posters holding them responsible for their support of Jew-hating terrorists.”
